Both East-West pairs bid the hearts grand. Both North led a trump. Olanski tried club finesse and went down. Roy Welland took in hand, cashed a diamond queen, antered the dummy with the club ace, discarded two club on top diamonds and ruffed a club…

17 imps for ZIA… Two small gains (8 imps) and after board 23 Zia was on the lead. Second grand slam arrived:

1)Polish Club

East led a trump. Declarer cashed three rounds of hearts and tried diamond finesse (with hearts 2-2 he could try to ruff out diamonds). 13 imps for ZIA who had 20 imps advantage with 6 boards to play…

But Vytas recovered after board 28:

1)natural or short

Gaweł had a difficult choice – double (take out) most often would be a way to 4♠, which does not look promissing, while with his controls he could hope for a plus score in 4♥ …

Declarer had (slightly lucky) 10 tricks…

At replay North – South landed in 4♠:

Has East lead ♥3, the contract probably would be down… May be more than 1… But Sabine led diamond queen and declarer had easy 10 tricks. 14 imps for VYTAS and with 4 boards to go the score was 109-103 for ZIA. ZIA earned 5 more imps…

Last board was again a slam one:

1)game forcing relay

No miracles… One down at both tables and main prize of the PALACE CUP 2018 went to ZIA.
