EVERY SLAM IS AN ADVENTURE...

Slam boards very often creat swings... Here are two exciting hands from Wednesday matches:

Jacek Romański (green vs red), sitting East got quite a good hand:

♠ AQ97 ♥ - ♦ AK72 ♣ AK763

He was slighlty surprised when his partner opened 3♣. First hand, in those vulnerabilities, it could be six to the queen and nothing more.

6 or 7 - it seemed to be the question. But North doubled. It was a good news – you can assume that North has the spade king, and if partner has 3 hearts, club grand should be cold.

If less hearts, may be North has 4+ spades and 4+ diamonds – there are some squeeze posiibilities in that case. So he bid 7♣:

♠ K10842

♥ AQJ95

♦ 93

S

♣ AK763

♠ J53

♥ K8432

♦ J1054

♣ Q

North led heart ace and declarer claimed. Slam was bid only once, while at two tables East – West stopped in 5♣.

It has occured on the other table of the same match. West has passed, and North opened 2♥ - weak twosuiter, hearts and another suit. East doubled, and South raised to 4♥.

After two passes east doubled again, and West removed the double into 5♣ - everybody agreed… 14 imps for BRIDGE24.PL 2.

But, as I mentioned, slams create swings. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

In the match between BRIDGE24.PL 2 and ZIA, Auken – Welland with East-West hands found the way to the best contract – 6♦, played of course by East:

North would like to lead a spade, but he couldn’t… 920 for ZIA.

At replay full-blooded heroes of the first board tried to show that each imp can count:

This slam not only in theory was worse than 6♦, but also in practice – it costed 300, 15 imps for ZIA.

Tomorrow more adventures…
